Clipmarks rocks
I've been using a great tool called Clipmarks for the past few weeks and it's just awesome. Given that I have a bias for sifting through a lot of information when working on a project this is exactly the sort of tool I needed because it allows me to keep track of the meaningful and useful parts of web sites I visit, thus also helping me cope with the incredible loads of information that are available. Before using Clipmarks I used to make PDF files of pages which contained some useful information. Needless to say the management of those files was a real challenge.Features I just love with Clipmarks: the ability to pick several parts of a page and to save them on Clipmarks as one document (called a clip in Clipmarkese) the ability to send a document to friends and contacts via email tagging of clips submission of clips to del.icio.us the ability to organize clips as "collections" (which are pretty much like categories, but can be qualifications of privacy if you want) the submission of clips to a community of users who will "pop" the clip and push it to first page (a bit like Digg) the creation of a personal web space with all of my clips Clipmarks is absolutely great.
Using the web to manage a merger
Mergers and acquisitions are tricky ventures. The outcome is seldom in line with pre-M&A projected benefits and unexpected obstacles appear once the operation is under way. Failure rate is high and the drain on management's energy huge. I have not come across many good assessments of success and failure factors for mergers, let alone "good recipes" for success, if there is such a thing as a fail-safe recipe in business. However, something that all failed M&A have in common is the people factor: cultural incompatibilities, resistance to change, desire to keep a corporate identity, urge to preserve corporate values, fear of loss of jobs... That's why I really like the initiative of Arcelor-Mittal to invest in a web TV that allows employees as well as outsiders to follow and contribute to the process of creating the largest company in its industry. The mission of the web TV is clear: documenting the creation of one of the greatest companies in the world. It's a creative and daring way of using modern technologies and the power of communities to help people let go of what is no longer and to move towards a common goal: the successful transition to a unified ArcelorMittal. Back from NYC
Some of you like to follow me on my travels via my blog and my Twitter. I’ve added a Flickr Photoset where I’ll dump my travel photos when I get back, too, so you can see the rest of the pictures that don’t come from my cruddy cameraphone. : ) It was a good trip in NYC. I got into the city on Wednesday night and met up with Eric Skiff and met the team behind his new startup (all nice folks). Their product will be really supercool in a week when you see all the top secret stuff I saw. : ) In the morning, I got to watch John C. Havens do a panel talk with Dina from Blip, and Ben from IBM, and oh god… Jim? from A&E. It was swell, and lots of interesting points (even pessimistic ones) were made. I also got to hang with Ben and Alex from Unleashed as well as Kathryn and Nick from If Not Now. And of course, I saw Jonathan and Geo and Andy/Stu, and I met Chiaki, and dozens more folks. I had a crazy day all over the place. We met Steve Rubel(I was so happy to actually meet him in person finally!). The day kept going like that, including meeting Jason Krikorian of Sling Media (who was really great to talk with) and our new friend, Lubna, and of course Jeff. I spent my time between Video on the Net stuff and Network2 stuff, with a smattering of PodCamp built in. At night, I got to attend the Video 2.0 meetup, led by Yaron Samid of Pando. This was community. I spoke with the ever-promoting Bill Cammack (who is a great guy, and who knew “Gas Face!”), as well as Mr. Michael Smolens from dotSub, Andrew Baron ( you know), as well as meeting all kinds of wonderful people (Sandira sticks out, but she hasn’t emailed me her contact info yet). I really liked the energy of Marc Siry from NBBC (NBC’s new broadband dealie). If you are in NY or can get to NY easily, I *HIGHLY* recommend attending this event. Yaron was great, and so was the crowd he gathered around him. I spent all day today in and around Boston, meeting with investor types for Network2. That’s been really educational to me, and I will eventually think of a way to make what I’ve learned useful to you. But in the mean time, I’m processing it all. I’ve learned lots about the types of venture capital people I like, as well as people who probably appeal to someone other than me. It’s always good hanging with Jeff and James (happy birthday!) and Amit, too. We have a few laughs in between answering tough questions. Lastly, I’m SO happy to be home to connect with my family. We’re celebrating my son’s birthday this weekend with a big 1 year old party bash. I’ll get to see Rob and Megin, as well as lots of local friends, and my family, as well. It’s great. Awareness of podcasting has grown even more, jumping from 22% in 2006 to 37% in 2007.The audience for podcasts is up by 18% from a year ago. In 2006, 11% of those surveyed listened to audio podcasts; in 2007, the number was 13%, about 18% growth. This figure looks like it may be the most controversial info in the report. At Marketwatch, for example, Frank Barnako is calling this anemic growth. While faster growth would be great for podcasters, a lot of industries would kill for 18% growth.Podcast awareness has exploded in the last year, growing from 22% to 37%.49% female, 51% male.All ages. The survey found more listeners 55+ than in the 18-24 age group.Wired - spending more than 50% more time online.More than twice as likely to own an iPod or other portable media player.

I wonder what Google Sets would produce if I put Kim Jong-il and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad together?" Well, unfortunately (or actually very fortunate for the world) Google Sets didn't associate the two in any way.So I figured, why not put the three presidents that I hear a lot of bad press together in Google Trends and see what I see. It's interesting. I would have figured Chavez would have been the least amount of searches. I guess all of his oil charity is paying off. Really, I didn't think to do the Google Trend. But I accidentally clicked the link for it on Google Labs' homepage before clicking the link for Google Sets. But since the page loaded, I figured I might as well give Trends a try.I wonder who Dick Cheney would also throw into the set?.. I wish we could all just calm down and get along. Can't we just make virtual war using Battlefield or some other game? I mean, really... Is loss of life as important as who has the most frags over a given time period?I also had another thought in the shower. I fear where things are going. My fear is that we're headed towards war over the Bush Administration's aggressive policies and there's not much we can do to stop it. I think the only way out is to pull our troops back and hope that everyone can forgive the damage that the United States has caused. I'm sure there are people out there who say that would make us look soft and would give the countries that we've recently turned into "enemies" a chance to build up and come after us. So I have this bad feeling that the powers that be in the US will push on with their aggressiveness pushing the three original subjects of this post together (and maybe more countries). A huge war will commence as "our enemies" will increasingly become more determined to protect themselves and turn the US back. In 2014 the war will have decimated many lives and we'll end back up in a semi-dark age. That's because no one will share oil anymore.Really, though, I'm just throwing a couple of thoughts out there. I don't "believe in" anything that I've said in this post. It's just some thoughts I wanted to put out there... I really hope that world war doesn't come in the future. I'd rather see everybody just get along and enjoy a real and second life. Yes, I am born and American, but I don't have to like everything that our government does or causes. I truly believe in the pursuit of happiness. War just interrupts that for everybody. But if war is your thing, play video games. Please!

The McAfee Mobile Security Report 2007, which focuses on mobile operators, shows that five operators reported incidents affecting 100,001 to 1 million devices in 2006. Alarming? Maybe, but the study also shows that approximately three times that number of operators reported no devices affected at all, so it’s hard to get worked into a frenzy. One should also note that the report was released 11 days after the launch of a new McAfee security solution for–wait for it–mobile operators. Grouptivity is the latest start-up that wants to let you share your views on Web content with friends or work colleagues.Specifically, Grouptivity gives you a toolbar that lets you easily strip all of the content from any Web page, including text, images and video. It puts that content onto a clipboard, which you can then send to your friends with notations (see partial screenshot below).The messages are called GroupMail because they can go to multiple people. It lets you add friends from your address book, or IM buddies, so that you can see if they are available to correspond with. Grouptivity is similar to Clipmarks, another site that lets you cut and paste pieces of a Web page. However, Clipmarks forces you to go back to your email client to send the content. Grouptivity is different, because the stripped content is automatically loaded into a form that is ready to send. All you do is enter the email addresses and hit send. Toward a Better Digg
Digg revolutionized social news when it launched in 2004. Since then, it has become the undisputed champ of news link ranking sites. They just recently crossed the million mark. And their influence goes far beyond those user registration numbers. Tangible evidence of Digg’s importance: the raw number of clones and Digg gaming schemes out there. We’ve seen rigging, vote buying, profile sales, and accusations of thug rule. The dozens of clones include a not-bad SourceForge project called Pligg, which lets users “build their own Diggâ€. But Digg’s ubiquity and influence doesn’t mean it’s perfect. A number of startups are tackling the same problem as Digg - sharing of good content via link submission and some form of voting. One of them, stumbleupon, actually has more registered users than Digg. For the most part, though, these sites won’t be able to do much damage to Digg’s steady growth. But many of them are worth looking at, and they all have individual features that could, if incorporated into Digg, make it a better overall service. *Personalized refers to recommendations uniquely tailored for each user BlinkList BlinkList takes a distributed approach to the Digg model. It lets anyone get their own link blog where they can add their favorites. BlinkList then looks across the whole network and ranks the site based on how many other users added the link. ClipMarks Instead of full URLs, Clipmarks lets users share just the best parts of webpages. Using their plugin, you can bundle together your favorite selections of content from a webpage. This includes text as well as pictures and video. Submissions are then “popped†by other members of the community, with the most popular at the top. Using the plugin, you can also submit your clips to your blog. Currently, the site’s two pane page layout gives me the feeling of looking at the net through a steamship porthole. CoRank CoRank confronts the mob mentality on Digg. Digg promotes stories to the front page based on the votes of the whole community, resulting in a lot of noise for users with interests different from the crowd. CoRank lets you look at all submitted links or filter out the noise by subscribing links from just the users you choose. Only the highest rated stories from your subscribed sources make your front page. Netscape Netscape has also taken on Digg’s mob mentality, mixing in their own team of anchors to submit stories and cut out spam. The anchor’s stories are featured on the front page along with the current top 25 stories. They also got into a little hot water with their recruitment practices. Netscape has managed a greater variety of content in it’s front page, pulling 2 stories from each of the top 10 most popular channels and 1 story from each of the next 5 most popular channels. Newsvine Instead of a submission free-for-all, Newsvine implemented it’s own form of quality control by only allowing users to vote on content from the Associated Press and other user’s personal articles. Users are given a live feed of all the latest AP stories, voting on articles and writing their own on their personal column page. Newsvine shares 90% of all revenue generated by advertisements on your column page with the user. Users can also personalize their feed OpenServing OpenServing is a product of Wikia, and the opensource version of BlinkList works for fun or profit. The concept is the same, a personal page of links, democratically ranked by your friends, but it also lets you post your own ads on the site. Reddit Reddit made headlines when Conde Nast acquired them. The site is a favorite of mine and is still up and running, with some key differences from Digg. Reddit rankings are based on an absolute vote (+1 for hot, -1 for cold), meaning a story can dance up and down Reddit’s top page instead of being buried out of existence by a few power users. To see what’s on top now, there’s also a “hot†list. This type of voting system also means the front page can be stagnant, to the chagrin of some users, but it has also avoided Digg’s payola scandals. Another bigger differentiator for Reddit is their recommended article page, which suggests links based on your voting pattern. Spotback Spotback is an automated alternative to Digg, that aims to use personalization to improve the signal to noise ratio of the stories you see. You train Spotback by clicking and voting on the stories it digs up. Voting positively on a story causes Spotback to reveal the next most relevant story. One of the best parts about Spotback is that it doesn’t even require a registration to get up and running. Spotplex Spotplex is another automated link site that automatically submits stories from blogs carrying its badge. Stories are then ranked on the Spotplex homepage based in part on how many views the article generates (the algorithm is still being tweaked). The site’s automation and closely controlled blogroll seems has avoided the types of rigging Digg was subjected to, but it lacks the community of commentors that make these social media sites addictive. StumbleUpon StumbleUpon provides a different user experience while discovering and digging up links. You use a tooblar (FF & IE) to tag, submit, and vote for links. While the site does rank links the main experience is by taking a random walk around the internet. It keys in on Diggs greatest strength, an easily accessible constant stream of interesting links. Diese Ausschnitte kann ich speichern, per Mail versenden oder direkt bloggen. Sieht spannend aus, muss sich jedoch erst im Alltagsgebrauch etablieren. Mister Wong & Co klingen auch praktisch, nutzen tu ich diese Dienste leider dann doch nicht. Ich habe zum Test mal diese Kampagne im Vendedig “geclipmarked”. Was meint ihr? Clippers Unite!
I feel I should let readers of this blog know about a web tool I have been using for some time now. Clipmarks is one of many bookmarking sites available today (others include del.icio.us and blinklist). Two features make Clipmarks stand out: 1) the fact that you can (and are in fact encouraged to) "clip" small portions of interesting articles, instead of saving the whole article, and 2) the dynamic community that debates, reffers, and "pops" each entry. Clipmarks has been perfect for me as I endeavor to keep up with several news articles at once, with the busy schedule that I keep here. It also helps me to refine my opinions and hone my arguments before I post on a given topic, as communicating with the Clipmarks crowd is definitely NOT "preaching to the choir". If you are a news junkie, a researcher, a blogger, or a missionary looking to keep up on events without reading article after article (ahem), Clipmarks is for you. One of my favorite features is the My Topics section, where any clip posted on selected subjects (in my case Brazil, Theology, Missions, Latin America, and Puppetry) shows up. If you join, and want to look for my posts, do a search for "brazilnut72". Oh, and don't forget to install the browser extension. It makes things a lot easier. Happy clipping!

A big transition
I’ve got a new job! I really can’t contain how completely excited I am to be starting at Clipmarks this week. It’s kind of bubbling out of me and I’m constantly thinking of ideas and trying to mentally plan how to prioritize and where to begin. At the same time, I’m transitioning out of a job I’ve loved for 4 and a half years. It’s been an incredible experience, I’ve made some life-long friends, and it’s certainly bittersweet to leave Common Ground, especially given how important our mission of solving homelessness is to me. I’m a big believer that if you’re going to bother doing something, you might as well do it right, so I’m been working up to the wire to make sure that everything at CGC is left in a good state. In essence, I’m doing my best to program myself out of a job. I’ve ported all of our various CMS systems over to wordpress, I’m collecting notes and logins and procedures on our wiki and passing them on to other folks, and I’m helping to complete a site architecture overhaul as I pack up my things. It’s been interesting, but I’m happy to leave knowing that I did my best even on my way out. I’m also making sure that everyone knows they can call me when things blow up - heck , I still work for Stu now and then! I’ve been working Thursdays at Clipmarks already, but it’s not quite the same when you’ve got to squeeze things in after-hours or 1 day a week. It’s going to be amazing to be able to focus on so much of what I’ve learned and have been doing on my free time as my 9-5. What I’m truly excited about is that I get to work with a group of people who really get it, who love working on the project and are passionate about it. It’s invigorating just to be in the office. Exciting times are ahead! I’ll be writing about it more here I’m sure, but in the meantime, check out clipmarks.com and see what I’ll be working on.
Sometimes, people are just awesome
Is it just me, or is there an abnormally large number of great folks in the new web communities that have sprung up in the past few years? Maybe it’s the fact that most of the people I’m working with lately are into the idea of creating or participating in something great, rather than making a boatload of money, but I’ve met more than my fair share of kick-ass people this year. That said, even among these great people, it’s not often you meet someone who is genuinely cool and also willing to give you their time and enthusiasm with no thoughts of what they’ll get in return. I’ve been developing a Wordpress widget for Clipmarks that allows you to add clips to the side of your blog. It’s only my second wordpress plugin, so I figured it would be a bit rough around the edges and would benefit from some true beta testing. We invited the incredibly awesome Torley to be our first beta tester Thursday night, and not only did he test it out and give us great feedback, but he’s also blogged about the tool and has done the legwork of installing an updated version of the beta just a day later! I’ve spent the past year getting involved in communities and meeting amazing people, but it still always astounds me when people are this cool. It makes me really excited for the things that we’re capable of building if we continue to work together! Long blog-post short: Thanks Torley! Towards a Better Digg
Digg revolutionized social bookmarking when it launched in 2004. Since then, it has become the undisputed champ of link ranking sites. They just recently crossed the million mark. And their influence goes far beyond those user registration numbers. Tangible evidence of Digg’s importance: the raw number of clones and Digg gaming schemes out there. We’ve seen rigging, vote buying, profile sales, and accusations of thug rule. The dozens of clones include a not-bad SourceForge project called Pligg, which lets users “build their own Digg”. But Digg’s ubiquity and influence doesn’t mean it’s perfect. A number of startups are tackling the same problem as Digg - sharing of good content via link submission and some form of voting. One of them, stumbleupon, actually has more registered users than Digg. For the most part, though, these sites won’t be able to do much damage to Digg’s steady growth. But many of them are worth looking at, and they all have individual features that could, if incorporated into Digg, make it a better overall service. ClipMarks Instead of full URLs, Clipmarks lets users share just the best parts of webpages. Using their plugin, you can bundle together your favorite selections of content from a webpage. This includes text as well as pictures and video. Submissions are then “popped” by other members of the community, with the most popular at the top. Using the plugin, you can also submit your clips to your blog. Currently, the site’s two pane page layout gives me the feeling of looking at the net through a steamship porthole. CoRank CoRank confronts the mob mentality on Digg. Digg promotes stories to the front page based on the votes of the whole community, resulting in a lot of noise for users with interests different from the crowd. CoRank lets you look at all submitted links or filter out the noise by subscribing links from just the users you choose. Only the highest rated stories from your subscribed sources make your front page. Netscape Netscape has also taken on Digg’s mob mentality, mixing in their own team of anchors to submit stories and cut out spam. The anchor’s stories are featured on the front page along with the current top 25 stories. They also got into a little hot water with their recruitment practices. Netscape has managed a greater variety of content in it’s front page, pulling 2 stories from each of the top 10 most popular channels and 1 story from each of the next 5 most popular channels. Newsvine Instead of a submission free-for-all, Newsvine implemented it’s own form of quality control by only allowing users to vote on content from the Associated Press. Users are given a live feed of all the latest AP stories, voting on an writing about them on their personal column page. Newsvine shares 90% of all revenue generated by advertisements on your column page with the user. Reddit Reddit made headlines when Conde Nast acquired them. The site is a favorite of mine and is still up and running, with some key differences from Digg. Reddit rankings are based on an absolute vote (+1 for hot, -1 for cold), meaning a story can dance up and down Reddit’s top page instead of being buried out of existence by a few power users. To see what’s on top now, there’s also a “hot” list. This type of voting system also means the front page can be stagnant, to the chagrin of some users, but it has also avoided Digg’s payola scandals. Another bigger differentiator for Reddit is their recommended article page, which suggests links based on your voting pattern. Spotback Spotback is an automated alternative to Digg, that aims to use personalization to improve the signal to noise ratio of the stories you see. You train Spotback by clicking and voting on the stories it digs up. Voting positively on a story causes Spotback to reveal the next most relevant story. One of the best parts about Spotback is that it doesn’t even require a registration to get up and running. Spotplex Spotplex is another automated link site that automatically submits stories from blogs carrying its badge. Stories are then ranked on the Spotplex homepage based in part on how many views the article generates (the algorithm is still being tweaked). The site’s automation and closely controlled blogroll seems has avoided the types of rigging Digg was subjected to, but it lacks the community of commentors that make these social media sites addictive. StumbleUpon StumbleUpon provides a different user experience while discovering and digging up links. You use a tooblar (FF & IE) to tag, submit, and vote for links. While the site does rank links the main experience is by taking a random walk around the internet. It keys in on Diggs greatest strength, an easily accessible constant stream of interesting links. Der Wasserstoffmotor wird gegenwärtig als die saubere Technologie der Zukunft gehandelt, die den Ölverbrennungsmotor mittelfristig ablösen soll. Es ist immerhin schon ein Fortschritt, daß am Wasserstoffmotor so intensiv geforscht wird. Die Probleme sind jedoch klar, sie werden von Helmut Eichlseder vom Institut für Verbrennungskraftmaschinen und Thermodynamik der TU Graz kurz auf einen Nenner gebracht: "Die Gewinnung fossiler Brennstoffe ist in den nächsten Jahren noch zu günstig, so dass der Wasserstoffverbrennungsmotor nicht in den heute häufig zitierten fünf bis zehn Jahren zu erwarten ist." (Siehe den unten zitierten Artikel.)Mit anderen Worten, Erdöl fördern ist momentan noch zu billig. Womit wir wieder mal bei einer der größten zivilisatorischen Krankheiten der Gegenwart, nämlich dem Gier-Faktor angelangt sind. Wie kurzsichtig! Statt saubere Energieträger zu fördern und ggf. sogar gesetzlich durchzusetzen, wird "billiges" Öl gefördert, das unseren Lebensraum verschmutzt, und wir sind gezwungen, dafür teures Geld zu bezahlen und damit die Kassen der Ölmultis zu füllen. Leider ist immer noch die Haltung "Nach mir die Sintflut" sehr verbreitet. Und diese Sintflut könnte gar ziemlich wörtlich kommen, dann nämlich, wenn aufgrund der Klimaerwärmung der Meeresspiegel so stark ansteigt, daß große Küstengebiete (auch in Europa) unter dem Wasser versinken.Wäre den Menschen nur bewußt, daß sie nicht nur siebzig oder, wenn's gut geht, achtzig oder neunzig Jahre auf der Erde sind, um dann auf Nimmerwiedersehen irgendwo in einem "Himmel" oder an einem anderen, nicht so angenehmen Ort zu verschwinden. Nein, wir alle kommen wieder, denn das Gesetz der Wiederverkörperung ist ebenso unumstößlich wie andere Naturgesetze. Und wie der Prophet sagt, "Was du säst, das wirst du Ernten", so werden wir alle dereinst in künftigen Verkörperungen die Früchte unseres jetzigen Handelns ernten dürfen oder müssen.Man sagt, es sei nur ein Drittel der Weltbevölkerung, der sich kategorisch weigere, die Wiederverkörperung als Tatsache anzunehmen, nämlich derjenige Teil der Menschheit, der sich selbst als Christen bezeichnet. Doch was ist mit dem Rest, den anderen zwei Dritteln? Obwohl ihre Philosophie und Religion die Wiederverkörperung lehrt, scheinen die meisten davon diese Tatsache bequem zu ignorieren. Statt dessen füllen sie eifrig ihre Taschen mit Geld, das nicht ihnen gehört, sondern das sie anderen, ehrlichen Menschen aus der Tasche ziehen. Sind es die Massenmedien, die auch die Massen aus den nicht "christlichen" Kulturkreisen medial so verblenden, dass sie "vergessen" haben, sich auf die grundlegenden Gesetze des Lebens zu besinnen?Wie wäre es überhaupt mit dem Gedanken, einen sauberen Motor statt mit Wasserstoff mit einfachem Wasser zu betreiben? Daß dies nicht unmöglich ist, ist inzwischen bewiesen, und man munkelt, daß das Patent zur Herstellung eines Wassermotors mit hohem Wirkungsgrad schon längst in den Schubladen der Automobilkonzerne vor sich her schlummert. Die Herstellung und der Vertrieb von Wasserstoff ist aus ökologischen wie auch ökonomischen Gesichtspunkten ein völliger Unsinn. Viel sauberer wäre es, einen Motor mit reinem Wasser zu betreiben. Doch schließt sich der Kreis hier wieder, denn mit Wasserstoff kann viel Geld verdient werden, denn der Verbraucher ist abhängig von den Tankstellen, an welchen der teure, oder wohl besser überteuerte, Wasserstoff "verkauft" wird. Ich setze das Wort in Gänsefüßchen, denn woraus wird Wasserstoff schließlich hergestellt? Man möge mir mein mangelndes Verständnis der Chemie und Physik verzeihen, aber ich vermute, die Grundlage zur Herstellung von Wasserstoff wird Wasser sein. Ich erinnere mich noch gut an den Physik- und Chemieunterricht in der Schule, in welchem unser Chemielehrer demonstrierte, wie einfach es ist, normales Leitungswasser mittels Elektrolyse in Wasserstoff und Sauerstoff zu trennen. Man entnimmt also der Erde irgendwo eine bestimmte Menge Wasser, spaltet das H2O in Sauerstoff und Wasserstoff auf und verkauft uns dann das Wasser, pardon, den Wasserstoff zu einem teuren Preis. Aber eben, Wasser ist eine allgemeine Ressource, und es ist ein lebensnotwendiges Gut, das uns von den Schöpfern dieses Planeten für unseren Lebenunterhalt frei zur Verfügung gestellt wird. Es ist schon genug, daß gewisse Firmen normales Leitungswasser in Flaschen abfüllen und dieses dann gewinnbringend verkaufen, z.B. Dasani aus dem Coca Cola-Konzern, aber das ist eine andere Geschichte. Über die Art und Weise, die Dasani auf der Homepage übrigens mit Sex verknüpft wird, möchte ich mich lieber gar nicht auslassen. Ein weiteres Beispiel für die verfallenden moralischen Werte der Gesellschaft, wobei dieser Verfall natürlich von einschlägiger Seite gewollt ist, gefördert und gesteuert wird. Die Bilder hier sprechen Bände. Aber wie gesagt, das ist eine andere Geschichte. Hier geht es um den Wasserstoffmotor. Beim Wasserstoff- wie auch beim Wassermotor handelt es sich nach wie vor um Verbrennungsmotoren, eine Technologie, die im 19. Jahrhundert entwickelt und seither in ihren Grundzügen nicht wesentlich weiterentwickelt wurde. Es stellt sich die Frage, ob es inzwischen, im 21. Jahrhundert, nicht Alternativen zum Verbrennungsmotor gibt, mit denen ein viel sauberer und umweltschonenderer Antrieb zur Verfügung gestellt werden kann. Doch die Forscher sind natürlich einem Zwang unterworfen. Sie wollen essen und möglicherweise eine Familie unterhalten, und deshalb müssen sie notgedrungenerweise dort Forschung betreiben, wo sie auch finanziert werden. Und das ist in aller Regel dort, wo die wenigen multinationalen Großkonzerne den Profit wittern. Das ist überall so, nicht nur in der Treibstoffindustrie, sondern auch beim Mobilfunk oder in der Pharmabranche. Es gäbe bestimmt schon längst gesunde Alternativen zum jetzigen auf gepulsten Mikrowellen basierenden (und daher höchst schädlichen) Mobilfunk oder zu den Medikamenten, von welchen uns die Pharmaindustrie weismachen will, daß wir sie unbedingt benötigen. Nur läßt sich womöglich mit natürlichen Heilmitteln oder besser noch, mit Methoden, die uns von Anfang an gesund erhalten, nicht so viel Geld verdienen.Zurück zum Wasserstoffmotor. Er ist sicher schon mal ein Schritt hin zu einer saubereren Welt. Aufgeräumt werden müßte allerdings zuerst einmal in den Köpfen derjenigen, die an den Hebeln stehen, die eine wirklich saubere Umwelt ihres eigenen Geldbeutels willen verunmöglichen. Auch sie werden ihre Ernte selber einbringen dürfen.
